Heirloom Quilt

About 3 years ago, my mother-in-law came across a quilt pattern online. Each of the 12 blocks had a house decorated to represent one of the months. She said she was going to make it for me and I was so excited! It took her 2 1/2 years! She moved a couple of times which held her up a little. A lot of the stitching is by hand and she came up with a lot of the details herself. Amazingly, this was the first quilt she'd ever done! She didn't start with an easy one, that's for sure!

Here's the finished work of art:

Isn't it amazing? I have to say, though, that the photo does not do it justice.

I have it hanging beside my TV cabinet, so I look at it all the time. It's one of those things that you can look at a hundred times and still see details you hadn't seen before. The July block even has our last name stitched onto the mailbox!

This will be an heirloom that I pass down to my children and will hopefully remain in our family for generations to come!

'Til next time...

That quilt is beautiful. How even more special that your mother-in-law made it for you. What an heirloom to pass to down.

I agree with Kris, what a beautiful quilt. I have been saving material for such a thing for a long time. Just waiting for a chance to do something with it.

Lucky woman-what a fun quilt! I love the seasons! I am blessed to have a grandma who quilts and is prolific in it. I once sent her some fabric when I was expecting our first child. I thought she would send it to me in 2 or 3 months, but no she sent it in a couple weeks! Then I had two sets of twins in a row and she did quilts for all of them! Please enter me in the contest as I just got a new sewing machine.
