Pee Wee: The Cold Weather Bird

The funniest thing happened a few evenings ago. It was about 20 degrees outside and snowing when this little guy started pecking on the outside of the window.

He was so tiny and he looked so desperate to get inside. My kids felt so sorry for him. They kept saying how cute he was and how cold he was and how hungry he must be...so in a quick moment of what I can only describe as insanity, I went out into the storm, climbed a ladder to the second floor window, and caught this little bird with two hands.

I scared him and he bit me so hard! I was saying, "Ow, ow, ow, ow..." all the way down the ladder and back into the house. Walking back into the front door, I realized that I had no place to put him! What did I get myself into now?

We tried to put him into an overturned wire egg basket, but he was so small, he slipped right out one of the holes and flew onto the top of one of our windows!

Here he is up close...he really was a cute little guy. The kids named him Pee Wee.

He wasn't going to let me catch him, so he ended up spending the night on one of our rafters. I put newspaper underneath where he was perched. It's a good thing I did! That bird must have pooped every 30 minutes he was sitting there!

Anyway, the next morning, he was trying to get outside and kept running into one of the windows. I was able to catch him and let him back out. The kids were sad to see him go, so we went and got a huge bag of birdseed so we could feed him and any other little "Pee Wees" that might be flying around.

My hubby just rolled his eyes at me. We've been married long enough for him to know that I'm just a little on the insane side...well, "unpredictable" might be a nicer way to say it.

But, for about a good 12 hours, my kids thought I was "the hero who saved the poor little birdy from the cold winter storm"...so I guess that was well worth it.

Blessings!

Brandi

Funny thing --> The Engineer and I have have also been married long enough for him to know that I'm just a little on the insane side and unpredictable. And I think, that can be good thing!! Especially when paired with a wise, slow & purposeful thinking man. We're GOOD for each other, and I'll bet it's the same way with you and your hubby11

Enjoyed this post. It is a nice feeling to be a hero to our children. My bird saving or any other hero attempt days are over. But I do have my memories.lol. Have a blessed Sunday.
